Public safety is a top priority for me, and I believe in creating a community that is safe for all residents. This starts with reimagining policing. I want to work with the law enforcement community in order to forge stronger relationships and create mentorship opportunities for our youth. We need to see ourselves serving in law enforcement capacities, and we need to ensure that our first responders as well as our community members feel safe. I support community-based solutions to public safety, such as increased investment in social programs, education, and mental health services, and the creation of a citizen-led commission to oversee police conduct and ensure accountability.
Transparency and accountability are essential to a functioning democracy. As a City Council member, I will support the independent subpoena power for the Citizens Review Board, which will give residents a voice and help to address any complaints and concerns. I will also work to increase community engagement, through town hall meetings, public hearings, and other forums, to ensure that residents have a say in decisions that affect their lives and their wallets.
